Prepaid vs. Pay at the Counter

Many rental sites push prepaid rates. Prepaying can lock in a price, but it also locks you in. Here's how the two compare so you can choose with confidence.
Prepaid Rates: Pros and Cons
- Pro: The price is locked in when you book.
- Con: If rates drop later, you usually can't take advantage of it.
- Con: Changes and cancellations often come with fees, especially close to pickup.
- Con: You pay months before your trip.
Pay at the Counter: Why We Recommend It
- Nothing to pay today. You pay when you pick up your car.
- Flexibility. Change or cancel at no cost. Plans change, and your reservation can change with them.
- Rate drops work in your favor. Check back before your trip, and if you find a lower rate, simply rebook.

- Halloween (Maui)
